Meet Heather Abdalla, FNP, Bath Community Health

Heather Abdalla, FNP, Bath Community Health

Heather has been a nurse for 20 years working in critical care, wound care, and the burn trauma ICU. In fact she is Board Certified in Wound Care. In 2016 she went back to school (SUNY Polytechnic Institute) and received her Masters of Science in Nursing — Family Nurse Practitioner.

Why go back to school? Family medicine encompasses everything and gives her the opportunity to develop relationships with patients and help them develop a lifestyle that fits them. Her goal is to encourage patients to prevent chronic diseases.

Her areas of intrest are engaging in a holistic approach to care, women’s health, adolescent health, geriatrics, and wound care as well as our aging population. Diabeties has become another area she focuses on as the need increases in the community.

Heather also spent some of her career at the Steuben Correctional facility where she gained experience helping patients with substance use, primary care, and helping people of all generations. She wanted to work at a community health center because of the many resources available to patients which isn’t often the case. Access to mental health resources is a huge benefit to patients. Enjoys that she now has the ability to care for everyone, no matter what their financial or insurance situation is.

Family is very important to her and she makes time for them. In fact, it was her grandmother whose cancer treatment has an affect on her to become a nurse.

“My approach to healthcare is to understand the needs of my patients and meet them where they are. Litle steps to healthy habits, tailored to their needs.”
